Fit & Fabulous

How are you doing on your Fitness Journey?

 Tis’ the season of full gym memberships, packed gyms, and many, MANY people posting about trying to get fit!
I have to say y’all I am practically one of those people.  BUT, NOT FULLY.  I have been on and off this fit-wagon since college.  I had two people that I would work out with everyday, and they had two different work-out styles.  So something that I learned, that is very obvious, but I am going to say it anyway, is that EVERYONE is different, and everyone has a different style of doing things.
While Hannah taught me how to accomplish a good core workout, and how to properly circuit a workout, Tyler taught me how to run constantly, not give up, and eat healthier.
When the New Year comes around, a lot of us make the revolution of losing weight, but then after a week the gym goes from full, to empty.

Y’all, I AM HERE FOR YOU!

Let me start off with this, it is NOT about losing weight, it is about getting fit and feeling good about YOU!  When it comes to getting fit and healthy, yes, you can lose weight, or you can maintain current weight and/or gain a little too, because you are gaining and leaning out muscle. And as you have heard before muscle weighs more than fat.
But, gaining muscle, getting toned up, or losing weight, whatever your goals are, it's not always easy. It isn't easy for me either, y'all, or the professionals, they worked hard to get where they are, and I know that you will too! You got this!

Eenie Mini Mynie Mo, where do I start to let you all get up and go, GO?!?

Let’s begin with the basics.

{Even though we all may think that the basics are easy, they can tend to be the most difficult.}
  1. Drink water.
  2. Get good sleep.
  3. EAT HEALTHY, EAT CLEAN.
  4. Work-out, exercise, stretch. 1 hour out of your day is only 4% of your day!
  5. Never give up.
  6. DO IT FOR YOU!

Number One :: Drinking Water

You should drink about 8-12 glasses of water a day, or because all of our bodies are different, you gotta do something that you have probably heard about before - check your urine.
YES - check it!  When your urine is really yellow, similar to apple juice, you are dehydrated! So, drink up that water! When your urine is basically clear, then that is great!  You are hydrated, and good to go!
The way that I keep up with my water intake is my Victoria's Secret 32 oz. water bottle.  I have an older version, which has cute little words of encouragement on the side.  Saying things like - "hey, have a sip," or "aren't you thirsty?"  I drink many, Many, MANY of these a day! And once you start drinking more water, the easier it becomes.  You won't want that soda, you will go straight to your bottle of water! Go you!!!

If you get bored, make your water more fun! You heard me, more FUN!  Add in some slices of lemon, and lime, and frozen strawberries, or some mint leaves, and cucumber!

Number Two :: Get good sleep.

Sleep is absolutely wonderful.  It quickens your metabolism, you will feel refreshed, you will feel happier and when you exercise, sleep will ease your muscles and give you and your body that time you need to relax.

SO, GET TO BED EARLY AND SLEEP!

Number Three :: EAT HEALTHY, EAT CLEAN

After doing some research for you, this one is pretty self explanatory.  I have also found a fun fact for you guys!!

FUN FACT :: Don't eat fruit after lunch (1-2pm).
Yes, y'all, you read that correctly.  After reading some blogs from, Blogilates, she mentions that a lot of body builders, trainers, do NOT eat fruit at ALL because of all the sugar and carbs in the fruit (especially during competition season).  but, she said that a solution to this was not to eat fruits after 2pm.
You will have a lot more time, to burn off the sugars and carbs throughout the day after 2 pm, and boost up that energy.

Also, here are some clean and healthy recipes for you:

Number Four :: Work out.

Constantly, y'all.  Don't do it one day, then skip 4 days.  Don't give excuses that you are sore, or it hurts, IT'S SUPPOSED TO! You should feel that burn.  Then after time it will be a good feeling, to get that burn, because you know it is working!
Switch up your routine! You do not want to keep your routine the same, it will cause your body to plateau, which is NOT GOOD!
And I am about to say something that will make you super happy - You don't always have to do cardio.  Yep, I said it.  In order to gain and define muscle (which burns fat) you have to lift weights, and if that is a little too much for you, or something you cannot see yourself doing, try Pilates.  For this, you mainly use your own body weight, and I will tell you it is difficult, but so worth it.

Number Five & Six :: Never Give Up, & Do it for YOU

Y'all, don't give up on yourself.  Do it for yourself.  Train like a BEAST, look like a beauty.
There is a difference in working out for negative reasons, or doing it for others - & knowing that YOU ARE DOING IT FOR YOU, do it because you love yourself, do it for happiness, do it because it makes you feel good.  Keep It Positive, y'all!!
Stay sane, hit your goals, and remain happy!

But, most of all, HAVE FUN!  It can be fun, listen to your favorite songs, dance instead of run, challenge yourself.  I have seen things like - put $1.00 in a jar after every time you work out, and once you reach 100, go out and buy yourself something nice!  (Like, shoes, everyone loves shoes)

Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramallows!

I know you are already intrigued by the title, believe me, I was too!  While working out, eating healthy, and seeing ALL of those beautiful, yummy sweets recipes, it was difficult to not try one out for y'all!

If you are a caramel lover, or a cow tail lover, then THIS is the recipe for you, and it is delish!

I found this recipe on Pinterest, which lead me to the recipe, here.
Y'all, this recipe gives us a caramel that we can make in 6 MINUTES!!!
YES, you read that correctly SIX MINUTES!
And it doesn't burn, like it would on the stove!

Here we go, guys!

Chocolate Dipped Caramallows

For the Caramel ::

1/4 cut unsalted butter (half a stick)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

For Everything Else ::

mini marshmallows
10oz. dark chocolate, melted and tempered (I got two bags, just in case - which I needed.)
Sea Salt - not fine, if you can find flaked then that would be great

Step One ::

Before y'all get started, prepare a 9X9 pan by placing parchment paper in it to cover all sides.  From the original recipe, she recommends to put them in both directions, but mine fit perfectly without it being both.  THEN MAKE SURE YOU GREASE THE PARCHMENT PAPER, with nonstick spray or butter. (I used wax paper, and it didn't go so well, so make sure it is good quality)

Step Two ::

Put the butter in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave until melted; about 35-40 seconds.
Next, add the sugars, corn syrup, and sweetened conduced milk to the butter and stir until well combined.
Microwave for 2 minutes.  Take out and stir.
Microwave another 2 minutes. Take out and stir.
Microwave for a third time for 2 minutes. Take out and stir.
Then, pour IMMEDIATELY into the pan.
Tilt pan to make sure it is in corner, and tap the pan firmly on your counter, to make sure it's level.
Set aside for 1 hour.
Lift out the cooled caramel, place on counter and cool for an additional hour.

Step Three ::

Take a sharp, greased knife, and cut the caramel into 1 inch squares.

Step Four ::

Take a cookie sheet, and line it with parchment paper.
Next, take a caramel square, stick a marshmallow in the middle and pinch all corners together (like a wanton) and then roll into a ball in your palms.
Press gently between your palms, then place on baking sheet.  (you will see the marshmallow fluff back up, it's okay!!)

Step Five ::

Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Step Six ::

Make sure that you melted your chocolate!  Then start taking your caramallows and drop them in the chocolate, one at a time.
Then, using a dipping fork (a plastic fork with the center tines snapped off) remove and gently tap off excess chocolate.
Transfer onto parchment paper.
Sprinkle with a touch of salt.

Step Seven ::

Refrigerate caramels 15 minutes, until the chocolate has set.
Store at room temperature.

BAM! There you go!  You just made, homemade Caramallows!  WHOOO! Go you!

A balance diet is chocolate in both hands. <3

Instant Teriyaki Chicken :: Review

 As y’all know, scrolling through Pinterest is what I love doing!  I mainly pin a bunch of stuff, but I also pin GREAT food recipes.

With this “new year, new me” resolution I made for myself, part of this, is eating healthier!
Finding this recipe on Pinterest, from here, was something that I knew I wanted to try.
They state that it is best to grill the chicken, but if you do not have a grill, then it is okay to use your broiler. (I used the broiler.)

My REVIEW is at the bottom of this post!

Teriyaki Chicken

-       2 Tbls soy sauce
-       1 ½ Tbls honey
-       1 Tbls tomato paste
-       4 bone-in, skinless chicken thighs
-       1 tsp sesame seeds, toasted (optional)

  1. HEAT grill or broiler to high.  Mix together, soy sauce, honey, and tomato past in medium bowl and stir.
  2. ADD chicken and turn to coat all of the chicken.
  3. PUT chicken on grill or in ovenproof pan under broiler.
  4. COOK chicken until well browned, about 4 minutes on the grill or 10 minutes under the broiler.  Flip and brown second side until cooked through, about 2 minutes on the grill or 4 minutes under the broiler, sprinkle with sesame seeds.

This is the picture from the site that I got the recipe.  This is not my picture in anyway.  Thank you.

Cook some veggies in a foil pouch to conserve the flavor and in order for it to STEAM!
12 oz. of veggies...and 1/4 tsp salt...spray foil with PAM...cook about 10 minutes.

The veggies that I used was, kale, red pepper, green pepper, and some red onion!  It was delicious, y'all!

My Review -- The recipe was good, it wasn't great. (My veggies were great though!)  It tasted a little bland, and I probably won't make it again.  IF I was to make it again, the I would add some more spices, some Worcestershire sauce, and probably some teriyaki marinade to add more flavor!

Paleo Banana Pancakes

OmiGod, OmiGod, you guys!  I found this recipe & it's just right!

Okay, so leaning away from my "Legally Blonde the Musical" reference; this recipe is, for real, AMAZING!

AND IT ONLY TAKES TWO INGREDIENTS!

It's a Paleo recipe, what do I mean by Paleo? Well, it's all the craze right now!

Let me explain...
The Paleo diet (paleolithic) is known as the "caveman diet."  What I mean by that, is to be taken literally.  Whatever a caveman would eat/gather, taken to a modern nutrition level is now known as the Paleo diet.
Say hello, to your meats, plants, fresh veggies, fish, seeds, and goodbye to, pasta, cereal, cheese, candy.
You're probably thinking, "UGH, another diet, of course."  But, from what I have seen it does really work.  It helps you lose weight,  gives you great energy, and helps build muscle.
If you want more information, go here, and here.

This recipe is extremely clean, super easy, & only 250 calories. Yes, 250 calories.
It makes about 5 pancakes (depending on the size) which is ONE SERVING!! :)
I just can't even handle it!

I found this recipe from Blogilates on Instagram!!  This wonderful fitness guru, and I have the same name!

Paleo Banana Pancakes

- 2 eggs (beaten)
- 1 banana (depending on size) - because mine were a little too small, I added an extra half!

Step One ::

Beat these ingredients together, for about one minute, so it is nice a thicker (and so your pancakes come out fluffier)

Step Two ::

Heat your pan to medium/low, spray with your cooking spray (PAM) and pour about 1/4 cup batter.
Flip the pancake when you start to see bubbles starting to form in the middle.  (not the mini bubbles, but small bubbles)

*  To finish it off, instead of syrup, I drizzled mine with honey! and I had a side of grapefruit!
*  Blogilates garnished hers with some blueberries! Yummy Yummy!

There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs.

Eating Clean :: Oven Fajitas

If you are on your journey to a fit and fabulous life, then you have found the right yummy recipe to get you started.
As we continue this journey together, there are THREE things that all of us need to work on together for this fit and healthy lifestyle.

  1. A healthy mind :: We need to have a positive mindset, and way of thinking.  We are already beautiful, so right now we are just refining that beauty.  Stay positive.  Saying to yourself - "I know I can do this," "I know I will look good," "I can't wait to feel better within my mind, body and spirit."  When YOU have a healthy mind, your whole outlook on life, and yourself will change.  You are stronger than anything you could have ever imagine.
  2. A healthy meal plan :: I would love to tell you that, all you needed to do was work out, and you could eat anything you want, but the truth is, I can't.  Abs are made in the kitchen, darlings! This recipe will help you get started, and its delicious.  Also, PLEASE! make sure that you drink 8-12 glasses of water a day!
  3. A healthy exercise plan :: I'm serious, y'all! Go to the gym, start Pilates, go to Zumba, try Hot Yoga, regular yoga, at home options!  There are so many options out there, to get fit, and healthy, guys, its crraaayyyy-zzaayyyy!!  Get that body moving, it doesn't always have to be a run, or cycling, just walk for like 5 minutes, do some jumping jacks, and then bam start on some weight lifting routines!
For those of you who don't think that you can eat clean, or that it is too difficult, THINK AGAIN! You got this!  This is all you, beautiful.  And all you need to do is take baby steps!  Start with this, and make a good amount so you can have leftovers!

Oven Fajitas ::

  • 4 small chicken breasts
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1/2 small red onion/regular onion
  • Mrs. Dash (original blend)
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Olive Oil
  • lime (optional)
  • sour cream (optional)
  • tortillas

Step One ::

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
Take all of your ingredients that you need, and set them on your counter.
Next, take your green pepper and onion (also, red pepper - I didn't have any) and chop it up
Take your chicken, and you can either slice it into long slices, or chop it into bite size pieces, like I did.

Step Two ::

Put everything in either a deep pan, or a 9X9, or 10X10 pan.
Take your spices, and add as much as you want to taste.
I put about 1 Tbsp Mrs. Dash, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp onion powder.
For the Cayenne powder, I put about 3-4 shakes!
Add a drizzle of olive oil, and stir together.

Step Three ::

Once your oven is pre-heated, then put your pan in, and bake for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, take out, stir around, then put back into the oven for an additional 10 minutes.

Step Four ::

You are ready to create these delicious fajitas!
Grab your tortilla, add the yummy chicken mixture, add a squeeze of lime juice, and some sour cream, and ENJOY!

* This makes about 5 small fajitas, and that is with a good chunk of the fajita mixture.
*Also, I don't have a finished cooked through picture of the fajita mixture, because before I could get a picture Adam already started digging in and it was gone.  But, it's okay!

Some side notes for y'all ::

- This is a great meal for a date night for you and your loved one.
- A great regular dinner night.
- If you make an abundant amount, it is really awesome for left overs, or lunch the next day
- You can always alter what you put in this fajita mixture, more/less/different spices, MORE veggies.

Much love,

Lipstick & Squats,

Spoil Yourself :: DIY At Home Pedicure

Life can take you in a whirlwind, you can get caught up in it, and forget to take care of yourself.  You need to be able to take a step back, and make yourself feel refreshed and beautiful; one of those things for me, is a fresh pedicure.  But, if you are anything like me, you cannot always afford to go out and get one, and you can most definitely do it yourself.

Whenever you have time You need to make time. If you have a little time, but your husband, dogs, kids are home, that is perfectly fine!  Do it WITH them!  This can be very sensual for you and your significant other, have them rub your feet with a nice lotion after you wash your feet. If your child is home, paint their toe nails with your own, this is very good for a bonding moment.  As for the dogs, they can sense your feelings, so they most likely won't 'bother' you, and you could also do their toenails!

Now, let me stop blabbering and show you my process of how I did my DIY Pedicure.

What you need:

- A Tupperware box that will fit your feet, or you can use your bathtub
- Hot water with Epsom Salts
- Nail Brush
- Pumice Stone
- Cuticle Remover? (the thing that pushes your cuticles down)
- Nail Clippers
- Toe Separater
- Nail polish of your choice :: I am wearing Fruit Smoothie by Confetti Cosmetics

Step One ::

Clean your toesies! Soak your feet in some Epsom Salts, sit back and relax.  You can get yourself a nice glass of wine, some chocolate morsels, and truly relax.  The Epsom Salts are all around great for you, they relieve stress, ease pain and muscles, eliminates toxins from the body and so much more!

Step Two ::

While you are washing/relaxing your feet, be sure to scrub them with the pumice stone, this will get rid of all the dead skin and smooth everything out!
Next, get all the dirt from under your toenails with the nail brush.

Step Three ::

Once you are done with however long you want to keep your feet in the water (I take mine out sooner, because I don't like the raisin feeling) take them out, and dry them.  They don't need to be extremely dry, just a nice rub down.  Take your cuticle remover tool, push them down, and then remove excess.

Step Three & a Half ::

Something that I forgot to put in a picture, and it is completely optional, is that I used a cuticle oil after I did steps 1-3.  It is just a product that you can use to soften your cuticle beds and the skin surrounding your toenails!

Step Four ::

Clip those nails to the perfect length for you, then file them to make them smooth and even.

Step Five ::

Pick your poison! HAHA Just kidding! Pick your nail polish!  Separate your toe nails with the separators and then go to town, paint them, and then go over them with clear polish.

And Voila! You have done it!  You relaxed. You pampered yourself. and you feel great!
Now that is how it is supposed to be!

"A vibrant and independent woman is much more beautiful than a woman who waits for people to validate her existence." - Kelly McNelis Senegor
